Why Last Year’s SEO Isn’t Good Enough This Year

Then Google Found It Had A Problem

After a few years of this, Google found that unscrupulous SEO operators were rorting the system. This ruined Google’s search results. So Google made changes. Big changes under the hood, called Panda Updates. Many of the dodgy websites were penalised in the rankings, and Google’s search results got more accurate. But unscrupulous SEO operators got smarter. Search results once again deteriorated. Google had to do something about it. And Google did. Google said, “If people are rorting our Backlinks = Votes system, let’s not just make a few more changes . . . let’s just smash the whole backlinks system!” And they did. They called it the Penguin Update. In early October 2012, as part of the new Penguin updates, Google ceased to recognise around 90% of all backlinks! Websites were plummeting in their Search Engine rankings everywhere, all around the world. Previous Top 10 ranking sites were to be found 20 or 30 pages back, or worse.
